Aghhhhhh! *catches a breath* Ok, ready...
Aggghhhhhhhhh, I can't even keep up with the rest of my life, much less my Messages page! Gah, too much talent... must not miss any of it. Hmph, as if the Add to Favorites-View Recommendation-Open In New Tab cycle wasn't kicking my ass already. The tendency for messages I make online to grow into
gargantuan,
untamable beasts, complete with a sub-population of
ticks, fleas and other good stuff doesn't help either.
Do the polka-dot dance!
So, today I read a
journal entry from *
ebineesey about how "the world is going to hell" thanks to the crappification of our cartoons. Well, one correction, the US of A is "going to hell", not the world-- we ain't everyone! Anyway, I don't commonly watch domestic, televised animation anymore, but there's probably a reason for that and what I
have seen
surely represents the imminency of Apocalypse.
A soap-opera about a bunch of poorly dubbed teenyboppers and their social issues more poorly animated than was both possible and done 5+ years ago? That's the new version of X-Men being aired! Perhaps it doesn't stink any more of the death of society than the old-skool stuff, but it could at least be made to be interesting, no? So, with that mentioned, what
was old-skool? What were all those good cartoons that used to exist? Let us make tribute!
Batman: The Animated Series (and, NO, that does NOT refer any of the spinoffs-- New Adventures of..., Batman Beyond [echh], etc.).
Gargoyles. (Eventually I think it's schedule changed and slightly adjusted the name of the show, but I never got around to seeing those. In any case, at least the original series was excellent.)
The Maxx. *drools* Ok, I think this would be a good time to start a originally-a-comic-book counter! *slams fist down-- CHING* [#1 (Batman)...*CHING* #2]!
Highlander. This one I feel needs a defense, as I actually wouldn't wipe my arse with the
live-action Highlander crap (why use crap to try to wipe up crap?). The cartoon was introduced to me by one of my buds, ages ago, and it was damn intriguing, despite it's inherently ongoing, repetitive nature.
Speed round!
Darkwing Duck, Chip & Dale: RR, Swatkats, Reboot (this would probably still be ahead of it's time), uhhh....! Tail Spin (I would give anything to get that imagery of surfing around skillfully through the skies on a portable, boomerang-sized air-board thingamajigger again), X-Men [*CHING*, #3 in the OACB counter], Duck Tales, Sonic (ehh, only one of the two Sonic series' better than mediocre, actually)...!! Good enough. Oh... well, add Doug first. Now, good enough.
Now, for ADDED value, the Rescue Rangers (C&D) and Duck Tales both had rockin' video games. Additionally, X-Men had an excellent game based on the comic-book (Children of the Atom, was it? The one for the Genesis), Batman had a good one for the Game Gear based on the good original movie, and Sonic had a ton of games which served as the inspiration for the shows (most notably Sonic CD for the Sega CD, I'd say).
I've obviously left out stuff, some intentionally, some because I've forgotten, some maybe because I never knew of them or how great they were. If you've made it this far, you're diggin' this stuff. Tell me what your favorites were.
Tsk, tsk, tsk... I went and [almost] forgot one of the series I originally had in mind planning this list: The Snorks (~
wackycracka reminded me-- thanks)! And, along that train of thought, I'm explicitly
not adding The Jetsons to the list and
am adding The Flintstones. A free cookie goes to the deviant who can give the original family name/name for the show. Also, Scoobie Doo, and, while the original cartoon wasn't too great, Space Ghost: Coast to Coast was the shiznit.
Straddle the fencing!
Oh, ja, ~
wise1sush mentioned Care Bears. Now, the Care Bears seemed to be on the Barbie side of the fence, so I never attempted to get into them, BUT I DID find one of the movies on one day and ended up watching the whole thing! It rocked. To those that are familiar with the Care Bears, it was about this seemingly very evil adolescent boy at a summer camp or something. Know which one I'm talking about?
Anyway, that triggered the recollection of another set of good cartoons I was into. First of all, The Gnomes (was that the title?). Who could forget David the Gnome (well, other than myself...)?! Second would be the Gummi Bears. TELL ME you wouldn't want to try swig of Gummi Juice. Go on, TELL ME. Last, but not least, would be Winnie the Pooh. Ahh... Pooh was and always will be, a favorite.
Where are kaoruAngel's deviations???
Ehh, answer to come soon ("soon"... *snickers*... bwahaahaha!). I'd suggest just devWatching, if that's something your waiting to hear about or see.
